I grew up around records being made at home. One of my earliest memories is peeking over the banisters to watch a band cut a take in the lounge below. I played in bands from a young age, then jumped the college fence to pursue a career in music.

I learned the ropes as an assistant to the late, great Keith Grant (The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd), then engineered for producers including Ken Nelson and Mike Batt. I've worked with artists in studios around the world, including Abbey Road.

I eventually joined a band I was producing. We signed to Visible Noise and toured internationally. Needing a home for my equipment addiction, I founded Empire Recording Studios in Guildford in 2009, where I've had my mix room ever since.

Having spent years as a musician, artist, producer and engineer, I approach mixing from the artist's side of the glass. It's always about the song, the performance and the emotion.
